After extensive research and testing I have compiled a list of the top five choices for pedometer watches. When you turn these babies on they will immediately begin tracking your steps and when you slow down to a sweaty halt, they shut off automatically as to make sure and only count those steps that matter.

Not only is the Sportline Pedometer a step tracker and stop watch but it also manages to keep track of your heart rate through a finger pad as well. You can use this particular watch to track daily steps by having it calibrated to automatically turn on at certain times of the day or whenever it feels you moving or you can choose to stick to the hard stuff and track only those steps you do during your regular workout routine.

This pedometer watch model can also track both daily and aerobic steps and it even gives you the option to set goals and will spit out progress reports when you want them. It doesn’t have a heart rate monitor but the other functions it has make up for that: 100 lap chronograph, stopwatch timer, and daily alarm. The cost isn’t too bad either.

However, there are some other great functions like the barometer and temperature displays and the altimeter that shows elevation changes as you make your way running along the Alps or something like that. I have no idea why it is market for over $200 retail though, at a price like that it should do a lot more and at least have some sort of goal setting function.

You can set six daily times to record your casual steps or if you’re more inclined to a regimented workout routine you can manually calibrate it to keep start and stop depending on the strength of your movements. Unfortunately, sometimes when you use the manual calibration settings for extreme work outs the watch might turn itself off without you stopping. That makes for the occasional miss read but its pretty rare and you can reduce the sensitivity on the device to try and make up for it.

5.    Heart Rate Monitor/Pedometer Watch for Dummies D-75

The watch isn’t for dummies at all, its for people who are serious about getting back in shape and getting healthy. You aren’t a dummy if you’re using this watch, you’re pretty smart in my honest opinion. It is one of the more accurate watches on the market but it has only enough memory for 7 days data storage. Its also the largest watch in this top 5 so it can get kind of clunky and ugly looking.

If you’re looking to get in shape by walking, jogging, or running, you can’t go wrong with any of these five pedometer watches. Each of them has their own little quirky characteristics but it is really just a matter of taste. If you think it looks good on you and you’re comfortable wearing it as you work out, buy it. Simple as that.

A common mistake that people make is to practice exercises that are inappropriate for a particular type of body.
