Most people are thoroughly aware that any form of cosmetic dental work will result in an alteration of the existing tooth structure, sometimes for the better, other times for the worst. Take orthodontic braces for instance. Using brackets adhered to the teeth and a metal band, braces shift the original position of the teeth to a more aesthetically pleasing one. However, aesthetics is not the primary benefit. By shifting the teeth into proper position, braces reduce the likelihood of dental decay and other problems. So, as far as alternation of the existing teeth is concerned, braces are ideal.
Dental veneers, which can be used to accomplish the same, or an even better effect in the aesthetics department, aren’t so lucrative due to the extensive modification required to the natural tooth structure. Dental veneers are by nature only a cosmetic fix. Since they can’t be directly adhered to your existing teeth, some enamel removal is required. This not only allows the veneers to sit flush with your gumline, but also provides a more ideal surface for them to bond to.
Unfortunately, any enamel that is removed can never be restored. This ultimately translates to a permanent dedication to the veneers. If you were to have the procedure done to be dissatisfied, going back to your existing teeth would not be on the roster of options. For one, what remains after the preparatory work has been completed is small stubs slightly resembling the initial shape of the teeth. Furthermore, with no enamel to ward off bacteria, these teeth would succumb to decay in short order.
Some patients have chosen to get Cerinate Lumineers porcelain veneers. Since these are extra thin, only very small amounts of enamel need to be removed. In some cases, no tooth structure at all is removed. Since veneers differ when it comes to installation technique, they are best left to be installed by a Lumineers certified dentist. Dental Lumineers in Los Angeles and elsewhere should be considerably cheaper than regular porcelain veneers simply due to the less arduous installation process.
Fortunately, most patients find that they are more than pleased with the end result of the procedure and are able to enjoy their smile for ten or more years. So, although the upfront investment is scary, it works out to a reasonable figure in the long run. This not to say that no amount of upkeep is required to protect your investment. The patient will have to follow a proper dental hygiene routine and continue visiting their dentist on a regular basis. This will allow for decay to be detected quickly and subsequently fixed promptly, before any of the veneers become damaged.
