An excessive sweating condition, known also as “Hyperhidrosis”, is one where an individual sweats on a constant basis. Unfortunately, there can be many causes, and to top it all off, these sweating “spells” can be side effects of other conditions; all of these things, of course, make diagnosing a person much more difficult for a doctor. Thus, it is imperative for an individual who has excessive sweating to know the exact disorder that they have before taking any medications to treat the disorder; and so, doctors must be very careful in assessing and diagnosing an individual with any excessive sweating condition.
Most people who have an excessive facial sweating condition have problems with their nerves. Typically, their nerves transmit signals to their sweat glands in the skin cells because of an error caused by the sympathetic nervous system. Some disorders can cause overactive sweating, too, such as: hyperthyroidism, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, hypoglycemia, diabetes, vitiligo, anxiety, menopause, lymphoma, tuberculosis, etc. Medications may cause overactive sweat glands, as can overexercising and eating awkward foods, too. Fortunately, those people who have excessive sweat problems not due to other causes, have other symptoms, too, which can help doctors make a correct diagnosis. One of the most common symptoms is reddening of the skin, and most often it is the area of the face that gets the reddest.
There are many methods doctors utilize to prevent sweating. Regardless of what type of method the doctor chooses, they all must either stop the nerves from reaching the sweat glands, decrease acetylcholine, kill the sweat glands, or completely block off the sweat ducts, making it impossible for sweat to escape the skin. The most common method employed is to use a medication on the skin that causes the sweat glands to clog up, thereby not allowing the sweat to escape from the skin (this is the same method used for anti-perspiration deodorants). Thus, there are methods of treatment for those individuals suffering from too much sweating.
