If you have the skin condition known as rosacea – or even just super sensitive skin – you are probably familiar with the game of hiding from the sun. It’s no fun, considering the sun is out just about every day for most of the day and is there in the background of all life in general, except for those sea monkeys at the bottom of the ocean. For the rest of us – the sun is not the friend it pretends to be, as it can really ruin the day of someone with rosacea.
Sun exposure is like pressing a big red button that says “Increase Rosacea Symptoms Now!”. As you can see, avoiding the sun is prime directive number one. Let’s look at some practical ways we can go about doing just that.
The first and probably favorite tactic is super easy and logical: use sunscreen. Buy it and keep it handy and use it any day you’re going to be outside and there’s sun rays beaming down onto the earth. A second tactic is to wear a hat. You can wear a wide brim straw hat, a ball cap, a cow boy hat – whatever you want, just something that provides facial protection from the sun. At the same time, a third tactic is to wear a scarf. Yes, I know you’re supposed to leave the scarf at home until winter time, but forget about that: we’re more concerned with not feeling like our faces are on fire than we are about wearing a scarf in summer. On a similar note of not caring what it looks like – what about using an umbrella to protect yourself? You’ll see people doing this who don’t even have rosacea in bigger cities. There’s no shame in it – try it out, it works great since it provides such a large buffer of shade for your entire body to move about underneath, away from the sun.
Those 5 tips all related to wearing or holding something to protect the body from the sun.The next two take a different angle. This involves paying attention to the weather forecast and planning your schedule accordingly. Make a point to know what the weather is going to be and simply be prepared for it. Keep that umbrella in your car or by the door – or have two , one in each place at all times. Make sure you do have that sunscreen you bought last week still in your purse. And so on. The point is that a little pro-active preparation can make a big difference in how it all plays out. So be prepared – you won’t regret it.
There is much more we can do to minimize the effects of rosacea. Laser rosacea treatment is very effective at improving peoples symptoms, for instance. This is one of the many types of treatments documented at the Rosacea Treatment Guide, a free resource dedicating to sharing information on controlling and treating rosacea, whether it be through avoiding triggers, natural treatments, or prescription medications – it’s all covered at the Rosacea Treatment Guide.
