Ways to Get Better Sleep Tonight!

Sleep deprivation can impact many areas of your life.  Not only is your overall health impacted, chances are your waist line will be too!  Sleep deprivation lowers your levels of the hormone leptin and increases the levels of ghrelin.  Since leptin tells your body it is full and ghrelin tells your body to eat, over time sleep deprivation can lead to increased body weight.

If you struggle to get a full eight hours of sleep at night, here are some easy ways to fall asleep that you can try.  By implementing these strategies, you should fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly.

Avoid Too Much Stimulation!

Staying away from violent TV shows in the evening is a must!  The same goes for any reading that is particularly stimulating. This not only goes for books that are violent or so engaging that they might tempt you to stay up all night, but for personal development books as well.  While it may seem like a good idea, reading personal development books before bed can leave up up all night with new ideas and get in the way of a good nights sleep.

Say No to Alcohol!

While drinking a nice glass of wine may make it easier to fall asleep, it can lead to problems staying asleep and make you restless all night.  You should make sure that you avoid alcohol within two hours of your bed time and limit your consumption to just one drink.

Eat Early and Smart!

One of the best ways to fall asleep easily at night is to make sure that you eat at least four hours before bed time.  This way, your body is not busy trying to digest food while you are trying to sleep.  You should also steer clear of known stimulants, like sugar, caffeine and MSG.  These items can make relaxation very difficult.
